5 Months Old

Jonathan is doing so well! His favorite trick is standing up for a few seconds on his own, then letting Mom or Dad catch him. He can pull himself into a seated postion just by pulling on our fingers. He can also sit for a minute or so on his own and reach for something with his hands while sitting! He loves to talk talk talk about everything he sees, and is very easily distracted by any sound, which can make eating-time somewhat challenging! He also squeals just to hear his own voice and chatters to get our attention instead of only crying.

He is down to one midnight feeding, which means I should be getting more sleep in the near future. He is also ready to start eating more than just that boring cereal, as evidenced by his pitiful stares at our food as we eat.

His favorite toy is still Curious George, but his favorite story is Winnie the Pooh. He thinks Piglet is especially funny. I don't know why.

He now notices other kids and loves when the older ones come over to play with him and tickle him. They get bigger grins out of him than Chris or I do! He loves to be tossed in the air or swung down low to the ground. I think the fact I was driving a Corvette during the first week of my pregnancy had an effect on his love of movement, somehow :).

We have been out and about a lot and here are some pictures of our adventures!

In this first series, you can see him testing his limits. Already the phrase "Boys will be boys" applies!
Yummy! A faucet!

What do you mean I can't eat it?

I'm gonna do it anyway, Mom!

This is his face when he sees me approaching. How can I resist?

He is still a little guy. Check out the saggy pants! They are even size 3-6 months.

He was laughing so much when I was reading Winnie the Pooh, he was making ME laugh too much to continue!

He is so interested in our drinks, we gave him some water to try it out and he is surprisingly good at drinking from a cup with very little mess!

These are some of him helping us pick out and put up a tree! He is good luck even while sleeping. We found a great one in 10 minutes. He even helped Dad put up the lights outside.

Check it out: Who knew trees came with legs?

We went to the zoo with Kathleen, Ella and Nathan recently.
Nathan is about 2 months older than Jonathan.

Ella riding the carousel after asking all day!

Kasih, the one year old orangutan. She was really cute.

Silly Me!

I just realized I neglected to include pictures from Halloween!

On Halloween night, we went to a friend's house since J-Man is really too young to do any trick-or-treating. We had a fantastic dinner and enjoyed the mild AZ weather. Then we walked around to a few houses while the older kids collected their goodies.

The next night, we went to Chris' parents' church for their Fall Festival. Once there, Grandma Brenda wouldn't give him back to us! We had more great food and Jonathan got to meet all of Grandma and Grandpa Schaefer's friends.

While there, Jonathan discovered something he would like to try- soda! He was very disappointed when I told him it would be many years before he could have some.

One third of my First Year is done!

Jonathan has been growing up so fast we can hardly believe it. Here are a few pictures of our adventures over the last month!

First is Young's Farm. We went with our old college roommates and had a blast checking out the crafts and delicious food! It was the last year for the annual event, since the farm has been sold, so we jumped at the chance to experience some beautiful fall colors and cooler weather.

We forgot a hat to shield his eyes so "Uncle" Mike gladly loaned out his!

The rest of the pictures just show how much he has grown up in the last month. He is 14.5 pounds and 25.25 inches long. We are pretty sure he was measured longer than he really was at his 2 month appointment since he is back to the 50th percentile in all areas.

Here he is finally enjoying, not just tolerating, tummy time. He officially rolled over on his own today from tummy to back.

Chris was playing piano for him and looked over to find he had covered himself in the blanket and was peeking out, playing peek-a-boo with himself!

We caught him napping with his best friend after a long car trip home.

For those of you who keep insisting he doesn't make noise- here is the proof!

He used to be able to sleep this way in his crib, but now he is too long!

This is my improvisational mini bathtub to help him get used to a bath in the BIG BOY tub.

He has been pulling himself up into a seated position more and more and he doesn't topple over to the side as much either!

As for the rest of the family, there have been some lingering complications for me from his delivery and it looks like some corrective surgery will be needed in the near future. Please keep us in your prayers as we consider the timing of the surgery in light of the approaching holiday season.
